Model H
The Burgess Company and Curtis Model H was a two place military tractor biplane designed with wheeled landing gear and a twin float option. This model was ordered by the U.S. Army on February 10, 1912. There were six built with the first delivered on July 27, 1912. SC#9 was the first tractor and first aeroplane with a fuselage purchased by the U.S. Army. Its price was $7,500.

The Model H was powered with a Renault V8, 70 hp engine and was equipped with a radio transmitter and receiver with receiving/sending antennae installed in the wing structure.
It had a span of 34'6" and a length of 27"9". It weighed 2300lbs. Its low speed was 38-42 mph and max speed was 58-72 mph with a climb rate of 180-320 fpm.

This first military tractor was accepted at and flown from Marblehead by Lt. Hap Arnold. It landed a Plymouth, Massachusetts for repairs. The next day on a water takeoff the aircraft stalled a low altitude and was severely damaged. The aircraft was repaired locally and subsequently shipped to the Army Field at College Park, Maryland. All other aircraft were shipped to the Army airfield at San Diego without incident.
