Model U-2 School Trainer
The Burgess Company Model U-2 School Trainer was a two place, tandem, tractor biplane with a central float. It was ordered by the U.S. Navy in July 1917 and designed by Burgess. There were six built. It was powered by a Hall Scott 4 cyl 100 hp engine. Its minimum speed was 48.3 mph, maximum speed 72.2 mph, and its rate of climb 300 fpm. It had a span of 46'9", height 11'2", length 30'5" with no dihedral on the wings.

Model U-2 was based on the Model U design of 1916 but with better performance due to the Hall-Scott engine. The U-2 can be identified by the two distinctive rectangular skid fins on the upper wing, tail section modifications and an over engine exhaust stack extending up over the center of the leading edge of the wing.

Model U-2s were sent to Pensacola, Florida and to North Island, San Diego, California. A-381, A-382 and A-383 were written off after accidents and the remaining three aircraft were stricken from Navy lists by April 1921. The U.S. Navy Serial numbers included #A-380 through #A-385.
