From the 1943 Prospectus:
"Northeast Airlines was incorporated in Massachusetts July 20, 1931 as the Boston-Maine Airways, Inc., its name being changed to Northeast Airlines, Inc. on November 19, 1940. Its principal executive office is located at the General Logan Airport (Commonwealth Airport), East Boston, Massachusetts. Northeast Airlines, Inc. is engaged principally as an air carrier over routes in New England and in southeastern Canada." (August 31, 1943 Prospectus p.3)

"From August 11, 1933 until March 1, 1937, National Airways, Inc. operated the Company's routes. That operation was conducted under an arrangement between National and the Company pursuant to which National furnished personnel, equipment and other facilities to carry on a mail, passenger and express service and the Company received all passenger and express revenues and paid to National a fixed rate per airplane mile. This rate was reduced by one-half of any amounts received by National from the Post Office Department under its air mail contract. As of March 1, 1937, the Company acquired from National all of its properties, including National's air mail contract, and took over National's personnel.

Beginning March 1, 1937 the Company operated as an air carrier on routes extending from Boston to Caribou, Maine, via the intermediate points of Portland, Lewiston-Auburn, Augusta, Waterville, Bangor, Millinocket, Houlton and Presque Isle, Maine, and from Boston to Montreal, Canada, via the intermediate points of Manchester and Concord, New Hampshire, Montpelier-Barre and Burlington, Vermont. Service was extended from Bangor, Maine on the Boston-Caribou route to Moncton, New Brunswick on January 3, 1941. From time to time service of certain of these points has been temporarily suspended.

Following the declaration of War by the United States in December 1941, with the resulting need of aircraft for military purposes, and the limited number of aircraft available for commercial use, the commercial air carrier operations of the Company have been limited. Since the declaration of War, the Company's major activities have been increasingly devoted to operations for the United States Army Air Force concerning which the Company is restricted in giving information."
